First, if you find a Camelback thermos en route to Thompson Lake, please reply! I'd love to get it back. It must have fallen out of my pack when things got a little hairy on the trail.
We hit snow at 3000' but there's a good boot track to the junction with the Thompson Lake trail. From there, it was breaking trail in fresh snow. It's steep, and we saw lots of rollerballs on the slopes. Rotting snow bridges made creek crossings difficult. The snow was your typical wet, crummy, spring snow, so travel was slow and difficult and spikes didn't offer much help. We had to go high to avoid an avy slope, and this was a steep route that could have consequences should you slide and connect with a tree. Unless you have experience in spring snow travel on steep slopes with no trail, I'd save this route for later in the year. We turned around at the saddle before reaching the lake.
