Trip Report

Fourth of July Pass via Thunder Creek — Wednesday, Jun. 16, 2021

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20
Panther Potholes

The trail is generally in great shape--the Forest Service has cleared numerous obstacles--except for one large tree across the trail. Four of our group managed to climb over, which involved an awkward straddling of the trunk. The fifth hiker made her way up and around, dodging branches to do so. Would be great if the FS fixed this soon...

After lunch at the camp site serenaded by a sooty grouse hooting in a nearby tree, we headed up another 1/2 mile to the Panther Potholes, a must-see if you get as far as the camp.

Temperature in the 70s, 10 miles total, moving time just under 5 hours, total time 6 hours 20 minutes.
