Hiked on the Wednesday after the heat dome engulfed the PNW. Lots of road maintenance work with only one lane open and flaggers. It added 20 minutes to the trailhead drive (coming from enumclaw). Other than that, roads are completely snow free. The first 200 feet of the trail was partially covered in easily walked over snow/ice pack. It’s melting fast. Route finding was no problem right after the 30 foot initial ascent. Just follow the flow of water east til you see the trail.
Aside from a few patches of ice, its dry and dusty. We heard lots of grouses honking from nests on the side of the ridge. Plenty of good shaded lunch spots around the lake, so don’t get discouraged if it looks crowded. Another ten minutes circling around yielded a great view on a log next to the water.
