Trip Report

White Chuck Bench — Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
Stream running high

Five of us braved wet weather to hike about the first two miles of this trail following some of the heaviest rains of the year.  The river was raging below us, streams were running high, and there was light snow in places.  The trail itself was a puddle or stream at times, but the views of the mountains and river were lovely and the trees, both living and logged, were worth the slogging.  We stopped when we came to a stream too high and fast for rock-hopping, but we could see the trail continuing on the other side.  We saw no one else on the trail or the trailhead.  It was supposed to become partly sunny late in the morning, but the sun was having a hard time.  I would certainly do this again, perhaps not in November.
