Arrived at the trailhead right before 9:30 AM on New Year’s day. Two cars were already at the parking lot. I brought along micro spikes and poles but decided not using them. However a few yards into the trail it was apparent I needed micro spikes. The snow was about 5” deep in general but on the trail it was pretty compact. The spikes did good with traction. I tried using the poles as well but they were more nuisance than helpful, hence remained in my backpack throughout.
After reaching the top, I wandered around for about 20 minutes before headed down. By the time I am back at my car it was 11 AM.
Along the way I met two other hikers. I had some brief conversations with one who lived in nearby Ellensburg.
Overall a relaxing hike. It’s a short trail with steep elevation. I would come back again when it is snow free for a timed climb.
