Hiked this trail the day after some significant snow and freezing on the NE half of the peninsula.
Easily accessed trail right off of 101. There are a few downed trees, and the trail is a little overgrown in places, but nothing unmanageable or hard to navigate. The snow started about 2/3 of the way up, and wasn't too bad. I did not have snowshoes, and never felt the need to put on microspikes. It can be steep in places however, so I'd suggest bringing them along. Given how much precipitation we get out here the trail could be clear one day and icy the next.
This is a nice, moderate hike you can do with a dog, with good views of the Sol Duc valley on top, and some good elevation gain. Probably less enjoyable in the summer, when you have to share the lookout with drivers.
