Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park — Sunday, May. 1, 2022

Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
cormorant just caught breakfast

Quick walk around the Gene Coulon park trails Sunday morning.  2 hour parking is free and relatively plentiful at the main lot off Lake Washington Blvd.  Restrooms are open and in good condition.  Do note, dogs are not allowed in the entire park and animal control was out patrolling this morning.  Mileage to do all the trails with a few additional wanderings was just over 3.  One other item of note, the park is currently the southern terminus of the big “Eastrail” trail King County continues to build out, so if you want some additional miles just keep heading north from the northern tip of the park.

The park offers really nice views of the lake, Cessnas doing touch and goes off Renton Municipal Airport, float planes coming and going, etc.  We were also treated by a bunch of wildlife this morning - cormorant, ring necked duck, merganser, red winged black bird, geese with chicks, plus one and adult and at least three juvenile bald eagles taking turns circling the lake then landing up in the big poplars right along the path.  Also don’t miss the pretty little island on the far southwest corner of the park accessible by a little boardwalk bridge.  And if you get hungry there is an Ivars and a Kidd Valley right on the waterfront next to the boat launch.  A nice, easy walk with lots to see.  Happy May Day.
