Forewarning: this is not a destination hike! Be sure to stop and smell the roses.
We started this trail after my '08 Prius complained trying to get to the Summit Lake trailhead, but we didn't want to admit a full defeat. We couldn't get past the waterfall at the halfway point, but it was a great spot to stop and picnic. The trail up and down was completely magical throughout; enchanted forest through-and-through, like a fairy tale. Be sure to take it slow, don't walk it with the intention of getting to your destination. You won't enjoy it nearly as much.
Also, be aware that going down is lightning quick compared to going up, and significantly easier. The grade averages about 20% on this trail, hitting 40% in places.
