Rainy Lake — Thursday, May. 2, 2024

Snoqualmie Region > North Bend Area
Rainy Lake

Roughly a foot of snow on trail above 3000 feet, quite soft and slippery. I followed a boot path up in runners with no problems and only realized the error of my ways when faced with the slope down to Rainy Lake. Ended up glissading a lot of the way down -- some voluntary, some less than. Wouldn't recommend this hike right now without snowshoes (maybe, I am not a snowshoer, dunno if they help in these conditions).

Excited to come back later in the season though. This trail is in great condition for being abandoned. Definitely requires some rout finding, multiple sections have blowdowns with a not-immediately-obvious reroute around them. Plenty of water on trail, but nothing sketchy, except for a few snow bridges crossing creeks where I was wary of postholing.

Lake was slushy and very picturesque. Very quiet and peaceful up here! Some fat trilliums on the lower trail, including a cool doubled-up one.
