Swauk Forest Discovery Trail — Sunday, May. 26, 2024

Central Cascades > Blewett Pass
Tweedy's Lewisia

Hiked this trail with two friends over Memorial Day weekend. Amazed to see only two other cars at the trailhead on this busy holiday! Such a lovely little trail, especially for kids and plant-lovers. The big, showy Tweedy's Lewisia were blooming on the southern slopes of the loop, Arrowleaf Balsamroot was in peak bloom, and the lupine was just getting started. Also saw a native purple clematis which was a first for me! Highly recommend this hike.

Pinedrops (pterospora andromedea) persisting from last season I believe
Bitterroot (Lewisia rediviva)
Columbia Clematis (Clematis occidetalis var. dissecta, I believe)

I added photos of it to the trip report; it's easy miss them because they are similar in color to the penstemons that are abundant on this trail. If you decide to go looking, I saw them about two miles into the loop (walking counter-clockwise) after the trail crosses the road and heads uphill.
