Lake Valhalla, Mount McCausland — Saturday, Jul. 20, 2024

Went to Lake Valhalla yesterday. Unfortunately we forgot bug spray, and boy did we pay for that mistake. Bring 100% DEET or similar, the bugs are terrible right now. Biting flies and mosquitoes. However, we still had a great trip!

Lake Valhalla was moderately crowded at the lake itself. We did summit Mount McCausland as a not so little side trip. That hike is a doozy. Short, but quite steep. It is occasionally hard to see the tiny switchbacks that lead up the mountain. Amazing views all around from the summit.

Bring enough water and then some - it is quite hot! Or, bring a gravity filter and purifier tabs (or similar). Pretty much the reliable source of clean running water right now is the stream near Lake Valhalla. There are no water sources on the Mount McCausland spur trail.
