Road: Forest Service road 6095 is quite pot-holed and also quite narrow in places. Any car can do it, however, if you go slow. There are areas where one car or the other would need to do some backing up in another car coming the other direction were encountered. There are also parts of it where alder branches are encroaching from either or both sides making some paint scraping a possibility on your car. Fortunately, the road isn't much more than a mile long from Hwy 2 to the trailhead.
Bugs: I did wear bug spray, but they were really not too bad.
Trail: It is 1.5 miles from the trailhead to the junction with the Pacific Crest Trail at Hope Lake. This section is steep in places with big steps up (and down), lots of roots, some rocky areas, some areas that need brushing, and some places that are fairly well eroded. It does require your attention, but that said, it is a pretty and enjoyable hike through mostly cool shady, dense forest. Plus, it's only a mile and a half. There are numerous small/easy water crossings on it that are currently providing good water for dogs. Once arriving at Hope Lake, there are good waterside spots to eat or relax. The northbound PCT is a delightful ramble through sparser forest and meadows, providing nice views, to Mig Lake and beyond. Much less steep than the first 1.5 miles. I hiked probably a couple miles beyond Mig before turning around and the PCT section of this hike is thoroughly enjoyable!
