1) Much easier if you follow the trail, which begins more towards the right-hand side of the parking lot, NOT in the middle where there is a larger gap in the bushes. There was a small cairn in the parking lot marking the start, and I placed a cairn at the opposite side of the first/immediate rock section to mark where the trail continues to the trail register post. The trail was fairly easy to follow all the way up to Kangaroo Pass, except in a couple spots where it crosses rock fields. Helpful to have a downloaded map with the trail or gpx route.
2) For the scramble from the pass up to the summit, I would rate it Class 3.
