Colonel Bob Trail, the bushwacking edition! This trip report is for the longer less maintained route to the Peak.

This route/trail really is not travelled. We were the only vehicle in the small lot when we began, and there was only one other vehicle there when we left hours later. We did not see anyone for about 5-6 miles, and then only heard someone at the trail junction with the stream trail. We saw a runner maybe a mile later, 7 or so miles in. A handful of other hikers and backpackers, but no one on the section of the Colonel Bob Trail prior to the junction. If you want solitude, this is your trail!

There were some blowdowns on the Colonel Bob trail. Lots of overgrown plants and tons of berries. It was a slog because there was no opportunity to go quickly, pretty much ever. Actually the first 1.5 miles were the nicest, which I’d say differs from WTA’s description.

My final stats were 16.62 miles and 5163 feet of elevation gain, around 6-700 of that’s on the way back.

Saw 3 grouse and a frog. It’d be nice to have this route more travelled to help clear the trail, but for now, enjoy the solitude and grind!
