We arrived around 7:30 AM and hit the trail at 7:50 AM starting counter clock wise to the first Burrough. There was a little wind but the temp was pleasant and not a lot of people on the trail. 3/4 of the way up to the second Burrough we looked down and were able to spot a big herd of mountain goats. The 2nd Burrough seems to be the buffer or end point for many hikers as the 3rd Burrough cut the hikers down by 80%. This became apparent on the way back as the 2nd Burrough was packed and no one hiking down and back up to the 3rd Burrough.
The 3rd Burrough was worth the effort in every way and we had our lunch spot to ourselves and glad we got on the trail somewhat earlier. The 3 of us agreed if we could do it over again we would have started an hour earlier. That being said I wouldn't rate this hike as HARD - its falls in the MODERATE/HARD range for our 50+ hiker group. The tips I would give is bring enough water, there is zero water source on the trail, wear a sun hat as this hike is exposed the entire way and start in the morning so you're on your way down when the sun is over you. Total distance on GPS = 9.55 miles, Total time = 5hrs 10 minutes
