We were camping across the way at Big Pines and got in on Saturday rather than Friday. My buddy and I hiked up Saturday afternoon but only til the first ridge that overlooks the campground. So insisted in going up again but only early in the morning when it would be cool. I woke up early and knew he wouldn’t be so I loaded up the dog and I and headed up in the dark. I didn’t get up early enough at 6am to watch the sun rise from the top but watching the sun light up the nearby hillsides was rewarding enough. The last quarter mile is steep and Ozimandias was already starting to revolt on the elevation ida. We didn’t get to the summit this time, but maybe later in the fall when it cools down for longer.
