Shortly after leaving the Mima Falls trailhead the trail splits into two. We took the loop to the left (Mima Falls Trail East for a lovely easy path to the Falls. The trail was well marked as well as the junctions. The main loop involves the Mima East Trail up to a spur of about 0.3mi over to the falls, then back to the main trail taking the Mima Falls Tie, Campground and Mima Falls West trails, all well marked, back to the trail divide near the parking lot.
The trail was well maintained, relatively wide most of the way, leaf lined, a little muddy in spots (easy to negotiate). This easy trail is nearly all in shaded woods but the 2nd growth area let in lots of light making for a pleasant walk. The trail is shared by mountain bikers and horse parties, but the path is relatively solid over most of the trip so the horses and bike tires did not severely mess up the trail.
Two problems arose while on this hike: lots of horse droppings, and incessant gun shots from the nearby shooting range. The horse poop was mostly avoidable, but the gun shots drove some in our party nuts, to the point of stating that they would not want to take this trail again when the shooting range was active.
