Trip Report

Boulder River — Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway

Bring your rainboots and enjoy a wander through a lush forest!

Road: Mini van approved. Narrow road obstacle at the very beginning of the FS road from a down tree. If you have a wide vehicle it will not make it, there is a big drop off. Otherwise, the road is straightforward with an average amount of potholes. Totally doable.

TH: Smallish lot at the roads end. NO toilet or privy at TH.

Trail: A beautiful walk through the forest. Was pleasantly surprised by the waterfalls! Pictures don't do them justice and I'm sure they are even more spectacular in peak flow.

There were several blowdowns across the trail, easy to get over though. Additionally, there were countless "mini streams" that we hop scotched over, would highly recommend waterproof books during this time of year. You only get to go down to the river 3 times, most of it is up along the river in the forest.

The trail ends at a backpacking campground.

The trail is straight forward and beautiful.
