Trip Report

Steliko Lookout — Saturday, Apr. 12, 2025

Central Cascades > Entiat Mountains/Lake Chelan
Road with lookout in the distance

This might be mentioned elsewhere, but I guess I didn't fully wrap my head around it beforehand, so mentioning it here in case it is useful to others:

This is a ~3.4 mi roundtrip hike on a gravel road starting at the Forest Service compound, and is not exclusively a footpath-type trail.  There's signs for a small parking area on the right just before the road turns to gravel and you can set out on your hike from there.

If you prefer to drive up, the gravel road is now open all the way from the Forest Service buildings to the lookout.  The road was in very good condition today and would have been suitable for any vehicle, even low clearance - no need for AWD/4WD at this time.  (That said, it might be a totally different story if it's been raining!)  The only challenge in driving would have been as mentioned in the WTA description - that you might need to back up a long ways if you encounter any oncoming vehicles on the road as there are not many turnouts.

Beautiful day for a hike - sunny and clear, but very windy the closer I got to the top.  Wildflowers starting to bloom but did not see any wildlife.  Surprised I encountered only a few other folks on the hike even though it was a Saturday.

Lovely vistas
Nearly there!
