What a lovely trail, at least when the day and I were fresh. The grade, even when it finally starts upward, is easy. The washout is tricky. I went overland on the way in (frankly, I forgot about the river route option), and it was steep up and back down. I chose the river route on the return. The first bit, I took on my butt, holding onto a long sapling conveniently placed. But really it was the rocky rest that was was hard on the body. I would probably take the overland option if I do it again. I went to the waterfall a bit beyond the Lake Constance trail, not quite to the campground. (There is signage there now, btw, for a description update. There was not a sign at the Elkhorn campground, and there's no indication that it's closed. The first campsite, before the open gate, shows signs of a recent campfire.)
On the way back, I met about 15 people, half of them headed to the campground with overnight gear. It will be crowded this weekend!
