My wife got me a new one person tent as an early Father's Day present and told me to go spend a night out in the woods because she's a great partner and knows me well. This was my 3rd time to Rainy Lake, 2nd time camping. I love how close it is to Seattle while also being remote. There's a reason this lake is less visited than other destinations in the area. It's an old fisherman's trail to the lake, sometimes hard to follow and always a major workout. My watch told me 4 miles, 3100 feet, with nary a switchback.
This was the first time I've seen people on this trail. I saw 3 people on my way up on Saturday and 6 on my way down the next day. I had the lake to myself, but am steeling myself for the day when I get up there and there's already a tent set up. The lake's small, with only one real campsite. Still, until then it's a special thing to have an alpine lake to yourself for an overnight only an hour drive from your house.
