Trip Report

Mount Pilchuck — Thursday, Jun. 19, 2025

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
pineapple photo shoot

Only a few new things to add as trail conditions reported a few days ago are still relevant. I also found micospikes on the slushy snow not very helpful and agree that putting them on and off due to alternating snow/rock sections was not worth the trouble. But I found poles very helpful when I did start to slide a little on the snow near the top. Big Boulders right before the ladder and the ladder itself are snow and ice free.

Parking: I will also add that there were 50 or so cars by 11:00 am today because it was a holiday- Juneteenth. We did not have any trouble with bugs but we hiked in the clouds. Guess it's a trade off. Low level views of Puget Sound, islands and lowlands opened up around 3 pm today other wise no views at all.

Busy at the lookout but everyone was friendly and jolly and we were humored watching a group of hikers balance a real pineapple on a rock outcropping near the lookout for a photo shoot. And three spunky, fit, 70 year old dudes pose for photos later on the same rock outcropping. These entertainments did not make up for the lack of views but made the trip memorable.

low clouds today that only opened up in the afternoon
