Our party of two wanted to spend some time on the mighty Nooksack River and thought this hike looked like the way to do it. We were wrong about that, but still had a lovely afternoon.
Writing this note to update some of the hike information:
- There is currently a big and solid log across Ruth Creek at the trailhead. It’s been topped and was straightforward to cross.
- The trail has been brushed out - very recently, it appears - and was in excellent condition. Mostly soft tread, with some short sections of cobblestone. Plus an unexpected bridge!
- We had hoped to find a way down to the Nooksack earlier in the hike, but the first chance didn’t come until 3.2 miles in. We saw an interesting rope set-up across the river at that point.
We didn’t continue past the park boundary, so missed the big views.
