Yes, mosquitoes were bad. But primarily at the parking area and start of the trail. Once a bit of elevation was gained they were not bad at all! Overall this is truly a 10/10 hike!
A few notes
-parking lot is small. We arrived around 11 and parked about 1/2 mile down the road. Please try and park just on one side of the road. It does get quite crowded
-love a loop trail! Not only is it fun, it helps disperse hiker traffic. We went clockwise. Both ways are beautiful. Lower falls route has gorgeous views of the rushing water
-for a hot day this trail is about 90-95% in the shade. Amazing! And on the upper route there are the most impressive old large cedars. Truly awe inspiring
-there a few downed trees but very easy to go over or under.
-elevation gain is very gentle all the way up to the lake
-and the lake!! Stunning! We brought swim suits and went for a dip. It’s cold. But swimable & delightful!
-we hiked as a day trip. But there were lots of campers. Certainly crowded on the weekend, but not terrible. one person described it like “festival camping” - as in sites are close together
-overall vibe was very chill. Everyone soaking up the beauty.
Enjoy it! #leavenotrace
