This hike was perfect for a very hot Wednesday. Mostly shady, not very steep, and a gorgeous lake at the end for a cool dip! And hardly any bugs.
There were about 20 cars parked when I arrived at 9:30am. I did see one car with back window smashed in. Toilet initially had no TP but was cleaned and well-stocked after I completed the hike :)
Having done the loop once many years ago, I also much prefer hiking out and back along the lower trail. I think I enjoy better views of the river on the way back.
There has been some log removal work done (thank you crews!) but there are still several logs to walk around, over, or under during the last half of the hike to the lake.
There are several spots around the lake to sit, relax and swim. The water was refreshing but not too cold! The campsites were all empty, but on my way back I passed a few groups heading up for an overnight stay.
