I hiked to Indian Bar from the Box Canyon trailhead. There hasn't been a report this year so I wasn't sure what I would find.
I was happy to see that there is a new bridge at Nickel Creek so no more detour downstream needed. There is one big log to climb over about halfway up to the Divide. The Marmot family up on the Divide seems to be doing fine.
There are a few small patches of snow starting one hill before Peak 5960 and then down to the Bar. The flowers are in midseason with Lupines, Paintbrush and Pasque Flower taking the show. You can tell where snow has just melted because there are new Pasque Flowers and Avalanche Lillies where the snow just melted.
For most people Peak 5960 is probably the best turn around point. That's the view. Hiking down to Indian Bar is another 3 miles round trip and almost 1,000 feet in elevation gain on the way back.
It was very pretty but a slog coming back up.

slo go on Indian Bar - Cowlitz Divide
The shot from 5900 and the one descending into Indian Bar look almost like a watercolor. I have made it to the gap and 5960. Just missing that 4 miles or so in between the two. Probably not going to happen at my age. Nice report and pics. The shot going into Indian Bar is very nice and shows why it is such a great hike.

There seemed to be a subtle haze that caused a watercolor effect.
