Little Spokane River Natural Area - Knothead Loop, Little Spokane Natural Area - Little Spokane River — Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025

Eastern Washington > Spokane Area/Coeur d'Alene

This was a beautiful hike with so much to see along the way. I left the parking lot to take the loops counterclockwise, hoping for a little bit of a warm up before the incline. I was stunned how much wildlife there was. I saw a small flock of quail, a few deer, and a bunch of turkeys. They didn't seem too fearful nor too friendly which was awesome to be able to observe them from a close distance while maintaining space. There were also lots of berries (unsure if edible) and wildflowers near the river. I also saw a few bumblebees. I left with a couple of bug bites - to my surprise because I didn't think there were many, if any, bugs.

I incline didn't seem too challenging, but I'm not sure if it was the heat or not being in shape quite yet this year, I couldn't make it all of the way before turning back around. Thank you so much to the park ranger who caught me along the way and shared his candy. I'm very much looking forward to visiting again on a cooler day with a few more miles under my feet!
