Tatoosh Lookout, Tatoosh Lakes — Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025

South Cascades > White Pass/Cowlitz River Valley

Our work party of eight spent 4 days doing much needed maintenance on these trails. We came in from the North trailhead on Butter Creek and made camp in the sandy area on the east side of the ridge before the trail drops down to the Tatoosh Lakes. Our work comprised a combination of brush clearing, tread repair, and drainage improvements. We also cleared a few logs from the trail. There is still a very large Doug Fir across the trail about a quarter mile up from the trailhead which was too big to clear completely but we opened up a path around it.

These trails are now in good shape and open to the lookout and the lakes. The wildflowers are at their peak and the berries are ripe. Keep an eye out for marmots and pikas as you hike along the ridge.
