We got a lucky hit on Recreation.gov and were able to reserve the Tyee lookout for the night.
In the WTA Hiking Guide and previous trip reports, there are warnings about the last four miles of the gravel road. But good news! There's obviously been a LOT of recent grading work on that part of the road, including long sections of fresh gravel. It's also wide enough to not have to worry about the steep slopes. We drove up in an Outback, but I think you could make it (carefully!) in a standard sedan.
The lookout's in great shape with stunning views of the Entiat River area all around. We got up in the middle of the night and the stars and milky way were brilliant!
This lookout was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
