This is wonderfully rewarding and challenging trail. I did a lollipop loop starting with the Sunrise Rim trail out to 1st Burroughs. It starts out as a nice gentle down hill through alpine trees and meadows until you get to sunrise camp at about a mile. Then the up begins! As a reward for all the climbing you get stunning up close views of Rainer and the White River valley. I would recommend going to 2nd Burroughs at the very least. If you have more in you, 3rd Burroughs is amazing. You go down a bit just to climb and climb some more (I think there were 3 false summits) but you are so rewarded in the end. It’s just stunning. Wear sun protection and be prepared for the wind.
