Trip Report

Huckleberry Creek, Burroughs Mountain & Sunrise Rim Trail — Wednesday, Sep. 10, 2025

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410

Want to make a note to anyone traveling on Huckleberry, there is a small fire present on the slopes above the trail.  I did a lollipop loop into the park starting at Huckleberry and then doing a loop around the Burroughs.  On the way in, there was no smell of smoke but on the return, I watched as a helicopter traveled up and down the valley and then noticed smoke in the valley.

Return trip was inconsequential as the fire is pretty far above the trail but good for people to be aware.

As for the trails, all are in great shape.  Huckleberry is such a pleasant forest walk and this route showcases the diversity of the park, from old growth forest to subalpine meadows to the alpine of the Burroughs.

Of note, if you are early like me, prepare to get showered below the knees from morning dew.  Lots of water sources until you get just past Forest Lake.  Some log bridges that are narrow and care should be taken if they are wet.  Not quite the bonanza of berries like I experienced last week but they are still out.  Didn't encounter a single person on this trail on the way in or out.

Sunrise area was surprisingly pretty quiet which was nice.  Burroughs always impresses with the in your face views of Tahoma.

Road is rough but just go slow and you will be good.
