We arrived at the Dalles Ridge trailhead around 10:30 and found our car was the only one there. The forest service road was a bit bumpy with some potholes, but overall it’s in decent shape and any car can make it.
After getting ready, we started our hike. There’s no outhouse at the trailhead, so please pack out 😉.
Snow covered the trail right from the start—about 1–2 inches at the beginning, gradually increasing to 4–7 inches higher up, and over a foot in a few wind-blown sections. The snow was soft and powdery throughout.
We were the first ones on the trail and broke trail all the way to the summit. We managed fine with just boots; even though we brought spikes, we never needed them.
The temperature was in the low 30s, but with sunshine, it felt pleasantly comfortable. The views were absolutely stunning—where winter meets autumn. We had the trail almost entirely to ourselves, seeing only one hiker on the way back. It was a wonderful day to be in the mountains

Hello! I was that one other hiker. Thanks for breaking trail. What a great day. Wasn't it amazing how much the snow melted by the time we got back to the trailhead?!
