Vesper Peak — Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway

Vesper hike turned into little adventure today.
Big fallen tree was blocking the forest road right after the turn from MLH, luckily I had small hatchet in the car, after 15 mins of work we could separate the trunk pieces and move them out.
River crossing was another crux, I've never seen so much water in it. We had to go upstream pretty far to the point where river merges from two smaller rivers and we crossed each of them separately. Was able to keep my feet dry.
Navigation in the whiteout was kinda difficult, my gps watch stuck for some reason I couldn't always follow the proper trail, which was unnecessary considering amount of snow. Could not see anything from the summit.

It's winter up there, knee/waist deep snow after the lake, bring snowshoes, poles and gaiters. We decided to leave snowshoes in the car and did regret.

Balls out! I commend you for going up this early in the winter--I like to wait for the snow to settle in or, even better, to melt out in July.
