What a beautiful Tuesday for a hike! I went to bed last night thinking that I'd go to Big Creek, but decided that I wanted to stick closer to home when I woke up. So, I headed out to Millersylvania State Park and did the 5.1mi Perimeter and Maple Hollow Loop from AllTrails. I followed Perimeter > Bentley > Old Growth > Maple Hollow > Quarry Ponds > Maple Hollow > Fen-Way Boardwalk > Lakeshore. I had never been out to the Quarry Ponds before - I love it! It seems like the perfect spot for a picnic in Summer!
All trails were in good shape, but we are getting to the point of the year where there's a bunch of leaf sludge. Speaking of Fall color, there's still a bit of yellow here! I saw tons of mushrooms and even ran into a deer on the Maple Hollow Loop. Even though it was a free day and there were plenty of cars in the parking lot, it didn't feel crowded.
