This is a good hike on a day when the rain may make you want to return to the car in a short amount of time. And its a great trail. There was a high chance or rain but there also some welcomed sun breaks. After passing Fox Pond I took the right on the Porpoise Point Trail and then another right up to the Calamity (aka Calamity Joan) and looped back down to the Porpoise. In a short time it becomes steep with slippery roots, particularly when they are wet.
The closer I got to the water the noisier it was. I guess I would call the water roiling, there was a lot of movement but no whitecaps and no wind that I could feel. I continued south along the cliffs and dropped down to a small landing on a point with views north and south of waves crashing the rock walls. After that I caught the Sunburst trail south after the very steep, somewhat of a scramble (at least for me) to the junction of the Sares Head Trail. From there I went up to the headland and rain.
All of the trails were in good condition with some muddy sections and a little standing water. Even though there were several vehicles in the lot before and after the hike, I only saw two other people all day.
