West Elwha, Glines Canyon Overlook Trail — Saturday, Jan. 3, 2026

Olympic Peninsula > Pacific Coast
Walking the Olympic Hot Springs Road

I joined the Gray Wolf TC work party on the West Elwha Trail. My first time hiking this trail, and it was an absolute treat. The trail starts on private property, so please be respectful. Gray Wolf has brushed out and rebenched a good portion of the trail, and we made it to within 0.6 miles of Altair. The trail is in great shape and ready for your enjoyment!

While I was on trail crew, my fiancé hiked to the Glines Canyon overlook with our pup (one of our favorite hikes). He reported that the foot log on the lower bypass is now gone, though the official upper bypass is fine. There are also some freshly overturned Doug Firs in the river, and the silt from the river reached quite high at the first road washout area.
