The last few miles of the road in was fairly potholed, but nothing that a 2WD car couldn't handle. Some snow and ice on the road. We were the first car at the trailhead at 9 a.m. on a Thursday. There was about a half inch of intermittent snow on the trail as we started, and it increased to four inches of continuous snow by the time we reached Dose Falls, 5.6 miles in.
The snow made it easy to spot wildlife tracks. We saw bobcat tracks most of the way. The trail was in good shape. At the big washout, we took the low route along the river and had no problem. We encountered only 2 logs on the trail, both easy to step over.
The temperature was mid-30s most of the day, and we had no precipitation. We were back at the car by 2.
On our drive out, we saw a herd of elk in a meadow on the south side of the road.
