Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
Off in the distance, I think that's Mt Index, but I've been wrong before.
The views are ridiculous. My camera completely does not do it justice. Views up and down the Cascade range with peaks that go on forever into the distance and valleys so lush and inviting you don't want to leave. There are adorable wild flowers speckled all over this high alpine ridge and cute little ground squirrels chittering at you to leave them alone. Go here now before the weather turns and it is covered in snow! The trail itself is in good shape. It is relatively flat and easy going. It is a shared use trail, though, so watch out for mountain bikers. They were all very polite, but it's good to keep an ear out for them too. As for the road up to the trail, I personally would not take a low clearance vehicle on it. At this point, it is beyond potholes and just full of low points and high points to trap a car. That being said, there were a few in the parking lot so it's up to you. Just go slow and be aware.
Sadly, Rainier had a hat on all day and never came out in full glory.
Some of the beautiful flowers.
