December 14th I have hiked in this area quite a few times over the years, but have yet to witness scenery the likes of today ! After a week long freeze in the Pacific Northwest, myself and 2 close friends ventured up to the Franklin Falls trailhead @ Denny Creek. The trail, though completely visible and easy to follow, was covered in packed snow and ice. Boulders along the banks of the river were also blanketed in ice - as we continued to gain elevation, the ice became more and more dense. Once we reached the last section of trail approaching the falls, we were treated with an amazing display of Mother Nature. The rock wall surrounding the falls was frozen solid, encased in ice and sporting an incredible blueish hue. Paul & Heather were able to make their way down to the creek (which was completely frozen over) and stand in front of the falls, enabling me to capture a beautiful shot. *** Note ***Microspikes/Crampons work extremely well when this trail is covered in packed snow/ice
