Monte Cristo Ghost Town, Glacier Basin — Wednesday, May. 14, 2014

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
Columbia Peak, by Travis Burke
Go. Go now. Monte Cristo--immaculate in warming weather, desolate and conquered by the surrounding peaks. Trail to the ghost town in great shape and worth a stretch of leg. Glacier Basin, well...that's another story...follow my tracks, 'cuz they're the only ones up there! Snow is soft, but safe...it's a slog...bring energy and fierce determination and you'll reach the basin. I stopped a little short of the full cirque because I was worried of punching through the snow into the Sauk. The trudge is worth it...Beautiful hike... Date?

Your report is dated May 14th, is that when you went?
Was there any snow on the trail leading to Monte Cristo?
Thanks

Re: Date?

Yep, went in on May 14th...
Monte Cristo trail has one snow patch right near the beginning (it's very short, and easy to walk over). There is a little snow under the trees at the flats, but that is also very easy to walk on. Overall, snow shouldn't be a problem to the town...beyond, in Glacier Basin--oh yes, Virginia, there is snow...very much snow.
