This is a rugged trail. Leave the young ones at home and come prepared, some experience on the trails isn't a bad idea. There is one creek crossing that seems a little sketchy about a mile in, not the sturdiest bunch of logs tied together with some rope... Big roots and rocks to deal with in the beginning and throughout most of the hike. Once you get into the gully look out for rocks from above. We witnessed a rather hefty rock slide coming down from the north side of the gully, it had us a little unnerved but we were determined. The views from Headless pass are nothing spectacular but just on the other side along the scree slope they are very nice. A lot of people scrambling up Vesper Peak today, the lake was far enough for us. I ran out of water on the way down but a nice couple in the parking lot gave me a gatorade! Thanks!
Shimmering Vesper Lake, still partially frozen
A lot of loose rock on this trail
