Sheep Lake — Friday, Jul. 3, 2015

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
Nice morning shot of Sheep Lake
Took a hike down memory lane. 7 years ago I took my daughters for a couple of nights staying here at Sheep Lake. We came back and did it again. The trail was a great shape considering all of the traffic this trail gets. After hiking to Sheep Lake, we continued on up over the gap and down to Upper Crystal Lake. Got back to Sheep Lake about 3pm and then looked for a camp site. By that time the sites were filled up and took one of the last one on the west side of the lake. Considering we had three tents, the site was a bit tight. On Saturday, almost all of the campsites cleared, so we moved to a bigger one. One of the biggest and more level campsites is the first one to the right. It is a bit off the trail and offers a great view of the lake. We watched a handful of folks try their luck at fishing, but only saw one fish caught. Lots of very small trout jumping though. The hike up to the gap is a great workout and offers great views of Mt. Adams. If you continue on the the second gap, you'll have a great view of Mt. Rainier as well.
