Central Cascades > Blewett Pass
A view.
Our family stopped by on our way home from Leavenworth. Good walk to stretch out your legs in preparation for a long car ride. And yes, we did see ant lions and alligator lizards- look out for them along the trail. Ant lion larvae burrow down in dimple-like traps they set in the sand; ingenious devices for catching their prey. We observed an ant lion taking down an ant- kinda like a Sarlacc from Star Wars. Teenage kids had fun, however this short hike is suitable for all ages. Nice tree specimens here too (many labeled with interpretive signs) and an old burn near the end where the kids could learn more about forest ecology in action. There is one picnic table at the far end of the parking lot. Enjoy!
