Took a couple hours to hike up to the memorial benches. Accessed trailhead from the Lost Mountain side. Ice and compact snow on road. A bit slick but my small SUV did fine. Made it up to the benches in about 1.25 hours and back in about the same amount of time. First part of the trail had ice and then once you got into the trees it was a mixture of loose snow, ice and bare trail. Most all was passable with hiking boots until about 0.25 miles from the benches when it became very slick. Put on my microspikes at that point. So thankful to have them, especially coming back down. Started to see snow at the benches. We did not venture beyond that point so I'm not sure if it would have required snowshoes. Great exercise and solitude. I think we saw a total of 3 people the whole hike.
