The road up to the trailhead is a one lane dirt road that’s filled with potholes, but my tiny little Mazda 2 made it up and down without any problems. Once you get to the trailhead, there’s a decent amount of parking as I don’t think this trail gets too crowded.
The trail itself is really easy to find and pretty obvious, but there is a simple trail marker just in case. A little way on the trail you’ll find an information board with a place to register. Once you sign in, you can continue on the trail for quite a while without it becoming too difficult. Eventually you will come across some beautiful waterfalls, which you will hear way before you see them. This is probably the prettiest part of the trail as well as the easiest.
At some point after the waterfalls you will run into a tree laying across the trail that you will have to climb over. The tree doesn’t seem to be going anywhere and has a nice section cut out for you to climb, but if you find this difficult I suggest you turn back as it doesn’t get much easier from there.
The rest of the trail is not difficult in elevation, but can get tricky as far as terrain goes. You will find yourself crossing many creeks, climbing wet slippery rocks and tree roots. Near the end, right about when you want to just give up and go back, or at least I did, you will be climbing up some trees and rocks to get back on the trail. But keep going! Only a little bit further and you’ll reach the river.
It seems like a great trail to increase your hiking skills and even learn to backpack without going too far out into the wilderness.
