Was this the only trail without any bugs this weekend or was my eucalyptus/lemon spray that repellant? I Was only bothered briefly by one fly the entire hike.
That being said, this was a great hike and quite different than the main trail up Mt. Townsend.
The road up was in pretty good shape, the final couple of miles with a few pot holes to skirt, and narrow with some turnouts, but very few cars so really isn't an issue.
there were about four other cars parked at the small, privyless trailhead, but other than the couple starting out at the same time as us, we had the trail to ourselves.
the trail is steep in places, but the middle section is quite level and forested to catch your breath in. There is no water source, other than a small stream right near the start, so pack plenty of water for you and your dog, and no snow remaining either.
the wild flowers are still blooming and there is quite the variety. The views were awesome, although a little fog floated around the Summit.
there were very few hikers at the top at noon, surprisingly, for such a great day.
the descent was made much easier with poles as the trail is dry and the small rocks can be like ball bearings under your feet in the steep sections. There was no one coming up, either, as we were leaving.
quite a bit of solitude for such a lovely hike.
