What a gem saved from logging by the concerned citizens of Index, friends and generous donors. The parking lot gates were open providing ample space for several cars. The kiosk was a delight to read what led up for a new trail to hike in the Cascades. The trail was a delight to travel on and interestingly tenth of a mile flags marked my progress all the way to the viewpoint. The trail ambled through second growth forest with intermittent switchbacks to gain elevation. The trail leveled out at 1.1 mile as it traversed the upper ridge crossing an old logging road and under power lines to a nice viewpoint of Mt Index, bridal veil falls, Mt Persis and Barclay Mountain. This hike would be nice in early spring when snow blankets Mt Index. I'll let you know!
