Trip Report

Nooksack Cirque — Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area
Lower Falls from water level

We were hoping that the roads would not be too icy, but were shocked to find that they were bare and dry in Skagit and Whatcom Counties.  Only the last two miles of North Fork Road had compact snow and ice.

The hike to Racehorse Falls is insignificant, but the falls are magnificent with ice surrounding them.

The trail down the hill to the falls is steep and covered with snow and ice.  Traction devices are essential.

North Fork Road runs along the Nooksack River, which is a great place to see eagles this time of year.  We saw quite a few today and took some nice pictures.

Combining waterfalls with eagles was a great way to spend the day after Christmas.
