Avalanche danger in the Cascades was at a considerable level while in the Olympics it was rated as moderate, so I played it safe and headed to Hurricane Ridge. The road going up the ridge was in great shape.
The Visitor Center in Port Angeles is under construction right now so there is a temporary Visitor Center and WIC that are easy to find by following signage. I did an overnight trip so I stopped in and picked up a permit. You can't park overnight at the ridge, but a few miles down from the ridge is an overnight area for parking. If you go up to the Visitor Center on the ridge, a ranger will be able to follow you down to the parking area and then shuttle you to the trailhead.
The trail was in great condition and easy to follow with snowshoe and ski tracks. That being said, skis or snowshoes are a must. If you go up on the ridgeline be careful around the cornices and not go out too far.
Sunset and sunrise were spectacular from the ridge with views of the Olympics and across the Sound with Mt. Baker in the distance.
