Went on up to Sourdough Gap and beyond! Wasn't sure what to expect as there hadn't been much in the way of a trip report in the last week or so- but I am very happy that I took the chance!
The trail starts at a well used trailhead with locked bathrooms- word of advice: do not drink from the streams nearby... we found a decent amount of yellow snow.
Right away- you are tasked with a quick jaunt over a medium-sized snow patch. If you are able to walk over it, you should have no issues getting to the lake. Most of the trail is snow free until it jumps into the woods. You will then come across a few similar in size and difficulty snow mounds as the first one at the parking lot. If you feel unsteady on the snow, you might want poles or spikes- but we really did not find them to be necessary at all.
The lake is snow free- and all the way up to sourdough gap is completely snow free. Once you go over the ridge- you will have a decent snowfield to cross, so if that is concerning- the gap is a great place to take in the views!
I am hoping that the photos below can help in determining if you want to take this hike on- if you want more of them, I will look through them to see if I can find something better.
